Current Volunteer Opportunities:
RMFR does require a minimum of 6 hours a month for most opportunities at the rescue.
- Cleaning Crew
-
Volunteers will work closely with the kennel tech team to help maintain a clean and comfortable environment for the animals in our shelter. Responsibilities include feeding cats, cleaning kennels and surfaces, washing dishes, doing laundry, and disposing of soiled litter boxes.
- Cat Socialization/TLC
-
Volunteers in this role will provide gentle, one-on-one socialization to cats that are shy, fearful, or experiencing stress or depression. By offering consistent play, soft conversation, and treats, volunteers help reduce shelter-related anxiety and support these cats as they adjust to their temporary environment while waiting for a forever home.
- Shelter Greeter/Tour Guide
-
Volunteers in this role will primarily assist in the front office of the shelter, welcoming visitors and helping them sign in. For those without an adoption appointment, volunteers will offer guided tours of the shelter, providing information about each room and the animals housed there.

- Transfer/Transport
-
Volunteers will assist the rescue by picking up cats from Denver International Airport and transporting them to the shelter. Occasionally, volunteers may also be asked to take animals to Colorado State University in Fort Collins for veterinary appointments and return them afterward. This role is typically needed about once a month, with shift times varying based on the rescue’s schedule and needs.
- Skilled Trade/Maintenance
-
Volunteers will assist with a variety of maintenance projects around the shelter. We welcome individuals with skills in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and general repairs. Shifts are scheduled on an as-needed basis, depending on the shelter’s current projects and priorities.
- Bingo Support
-
Our weekly Bingo session on Tuesday nights is our most consistent source of funding and you can help! Volunteers should be comfortable interacting with players and other volunteers in a fun, busy environment.
- Event Volunteer
-
Volunteer at events by greeting guests, introducing them to our adoptable cats, and sharing the story and mission of our rescue.
- Fundraising/Grant writing and CRM/Technical Assistance
